I think I was asleep at the wheel this week. I made all of yesteday's changes and set the Showdown in the morning and forgot to hit submit before I left for the day. Now I just realized the Showdown is the same as Movieline #2, which I never allow to happen. It's been a long, rough summer!

Kind of shocked that Suicide Squad's numbers have held up so well during the week, given the seeming universal hatred to meh feelings on it.

It had a miserable drop to 8.2M on Thursday. A 45M weekend seems like the absolute ceiling for it, probably closer to 40M. We'll see how SAUSAGE PARTY affects it. Looks like I was wrong on that title. Early numbers suggest a large, long 15M+ Friday.

Looks like families are movied out for the summer.  The year so far has largely been carried by family films (Zootopia, Jungle Book, Dory, Pets and to a lesser extent Kung Fu Panda 3 and Angry Birds.  But now the last three have failed, Ice Age 5, Nine Lives, and Pete's Dragon.  Kubo has good reviews but doesn't seem like a breakout due to a late to the party release date and a potentially too scary/intense plot for youngsters.  The Wild Life looks like a smaller kind of release like Norm of the North.  Storks doesn't seem to have much buzz among the target audience.  That opens the door for Trolls to do quite well in November (more than I normally would have thought any way), as well as Moana later in the month.
