If you ever get the opportunity on a big screen to see Les Terribles Enfants (d. Melville, 1950 France) or Variety (d. Dupont, 1925, Germany)with live music by the Alloy Orchestre, do not pass them by.

Highly recommended new films: Neruda, Graduation, Moonlight, Frantz, Maudie & B Side: Elsa Dorfman

Hi Neil,

Keith, Ralph, and I all got into the festival. Yes I read AO Scott's article and for this one weekend, I too am a believer. Yet I do not shake my instinct that it is in non-profit theatres and festivals, which partially resemble museums already, where the audiences are mostly congregating.  Surely 35mm film is already like oil paintings. I think the industry at large will continue to undermine itself and might cease as that fantastical artform that has been cinema.  But I suspend my cynicism this week!
